The second amendment secures the right to bear arms. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State," is a justification clause, and "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed," is an operative clause, meaning what is being secured. In the second amendment, the right to bear arms is the right being secured.

| Speak RoundCitizens do have the right to bear arms. That is true. However, it would be chaotic to have no control whatsoever. The position I am arguing for is minimal gun control. For example, it is gun control to ban military assault rifles, or machine guns. However, the citizens still have arms they are entitled to., such as various pistols, shotguns, and rifles.
The point is that if we allow for citizens to have military arms, then it would spell catastrophe.
