I believe that in Canada and the USA their is no male privilege. This is because their are no rights that are afford to men and not women. Then in society people talk about the wage gap and how women make so much less then men when this is just not true. It's proven that men usually work more hours take less time off then women. So the whole pay gap in Canada and the USA at least doesn't exist. I think their are areas in society where men are better of but also their are areas where women are better off. When people say women have to be scared of getting raped or sexually assaulted way more then men this is just not true. If you include prison men actually get raped more than women do and if we are talking about privilege then its a a privilege to women that men receive on average a 66% longer jail sentence for the same crime. Also most rapes in prison if they are reported never have anything done about them. People also say that rapist get off free and this isn't true rapist are convicted at the same rate as murdered and many other violent crimes and it is proven then men are more likely to be a victim of a violent crime.  It is also not a privilege that that 75-80% of suicides are males. It is not a privilege.  Also in Canada when you get out of prison their are 2 foundations that help ex-convictions 1 if for everyone and 1 is for only women their is no male privilege their. Also just googling some of Hillary Clinton sexual assault cases the only thing that came up was Bill Clinton's. How is that male privilege. With the whole Me too movement, I think it is a good cause in theory but in practice it doesn't work because it is not justice. the Me too moment believes in guilty before proven innocents which is just wrong. Also the Me too moment only focused on Trumps sexual assault allegations and not Hillary's because not that their was proof against Trump but the fact that he was a man. He is not privileged because he is a man in this case. This is why I feel like their is no male privilege.

DEFINITION:

Male privilege is a legal, cultural, and social system that gives men an advantage of success and benefit at the expense of women.

SUMMARY:

There are many examples where men have an unfair advantage which gives them an advantage.  The three categories are:
a) General Safety
b) Social Acceptance on Grooming
c) Perceptions of Authority.

Because men do not have the same level of fear when walking at night, or alone, there is a freedom of exploration men have that women do not.  Women are expected to spend more time effort and energy in grooming themselves and presenting themselves.
A woman who asserts authority, or raise their voice are socially considered bossy when men are considered authoritative.

SAFETY:

Women have a genuinely higher level of fear when it comes to being alone, traveling alone, or being in situations of vulnerability.  In this study of the sexes and safety, it was found (inter alia) that

  • 53% of women had a significant fear of sexually assaulting, vs 24% of men
  • 50% of women for physical assault vs 35% for men
  • 66% of women have fear when walking to the car in the dark alone at night vs 24% for men
  • 53% of woman have fear when using an elevator at night vs 17% for men

Because of the increased level of anxiety experienced by women, and fear,  women are not exposed to the same level of opportunities that men are, i.e. networking, and events where one would be single or at night.

This genuine fear will have a foreseeably reduced benefit to women, and therefore men have a positive benefit.  Per the definition, this qualifies as a privilege.

APPEARANCE

Women have a social standard of appearance requirements that are higher than men.  This article, while not scientific, does paint a fair representation of the social expectations of men vs woman, including grooming.  Some of the subjects noted:

There is an expectation for a woman to be clean-shaven always, legs included which take more time.
Women are expected to dress to a level that is not "tomboyish" or "too simple"
Women are expected to prepare their hair and complexion to a level that is not expected of men.
Women are constantly judged and objectified in media to a level men are not.

With this clear level of imbalance in the visual and presentation expectations, women have to spend more time, money, emotional and physical energy, women do not have the same time or judgment standards to benefit from new opportunities.

If a woman has to groom 30 minutes more per day, she has lost 2.5 hours in the workweek of other opportunities,

PERCEPTION OF AUTHORITY

There was a study performed at Stanford that looked at the resume of an individual.  It is called the Howard Heidi study.  The results were astounding: the group with the male applicant said they would hire him to their imaginary company. But the group with the female applicant said that she was too bossy, forward, and felt as if she wouldn’t get along with their employees. They gathered all of this from a resume.

The purpose of this study was to show the predispositions people have.    The social constructs clearly create an advantage for men.  In that example, the man would have had the opportunity and the woman would not, and said the opportunity was founded on gender

I have clearly shown that there are demonstrable advantages men have over women in our society and those would qualify as a privilege.

The resolution as stated is incorrect.

I love the double negative position I argue from. I need an abacus to keep track :)

When I saw it spelled wrong in the resolution, I thought, meh we all make mistakes.
But it's spelled incorrectly over and over again in the first round as well. My grammar-nazi brain just had a brief melt down. I'm sorry, it's all over now. You guys can proceed.

"Their" = the thing belong to them.
"There" = in, at, or to.Basically describing a position or location.

for extra credit and to complete the lesson that i KNOW we all know...

"They're" = They are.
