Round Forfeited

| Speak RoundDespite the forfeit of my opponent, I'm wondering if I'm even in a position to take Con here. I was thinking about the issue coming home one evening. I walked down the dark streets, the incandescent glow of lit sodium lighting the way as I went home. It was a bit chilly, so I shoveled some more coal into furnace to warm up the house a bit. I then sat down and lamented that it was too dark to go outside and do anything.
Oh wait, I didn't do that because it's not the 19th century anymore.
Let's face it. We have daylight saving(s) time because a guy wanted more daylight to collect bugs[1]. The manufactured reasons for this (to convince actual governments to implement this absurd policy) is to save energy in the evening, and move more daylight into the evening where people could take more advantage of it.
Energy Savings - Since my opponent forfeited, I won't spend too much time citing individual studies. Suffice it to say, there is no consistent, conclusive evidence that daylight saving(s) time results in significant energy savings. For any study that shows this, I can retort with a study that shows it doesn't, or is inconclusive.
Conserving Daylight - Oh, sorry. I got distracted by my big screen, high-definition TV playing "The Hobbit." It sits atop an entertainment center with a Wii and a PS3. I'm typing this on a Laptop connected to broadband Internet while sitting next to my iPad waiting for some friends to take their turn in Words With Friends. Yeah, not going out can suck. I think we'll survive.
Not only are the alleged advantages either not supportable or are irrelevant in this day an age, DST is irrelevant to much of the world. Too close to the poles[2] or too close to the equator[3] and the more/less extreme changes in daylight make DST ineffectual (does not significantly counteract the changes in daylight near the poles, and has no significant changes to counteract near the equator). Combine this with the hazardous effects[4][5] of DST, and it becomes clear why we should do away with this antiquated idea that wasn't really that good to begin with.

| Speak Round"I completley Forgot I took this debate, so I'll concede?
NO, I WILL RALLY ON, RALLY ON!
OR not...
I really don't know what to do here. I've only got 2 freaking hours when I discovered this debate, so I guess I'm screwed.
What to do, what to do.
If I could give an argument, I would give something along the lines of...
The fact that my opponents sources for #4 and #5, show a "an increase in proinflammatory cytokine levels", however, this does not translate into a vulnerability, while comparatively the only thing it shows, and what they studied was "a lack of sleep".
So freaking self-evident I cannot believe how that is nothing more then an inherent part of the process. So you lose sleep that day. That's what keeps the daylight conserved. And considering the Efficiency of water conservation in the increased daylight, and the fact that agricultural needs consume 90% of our water, which is a VERY valuable resource.
As for Energy Saving, SCREW IT, I concede the Debate. I can't take the time right now, Well I could, if I had only bothered to look :(
I have thought about what I would do If I had noticed, but it's too late for that. I conceded, if I did. Why continue at this point. I could say that The ONLY countries in which it could be abolished, which is the title/resolution, are not countries that are close enough to the poles for his sources/points #2 and #3. It is no doubt it would not work for some countries, but for those that are significantly affected, it is not an issue. [1]
From his #1 source, it did not come from his intrest in bugs, but his "His shift-work job made him aware of the value of the daylight hours"
In other words, Day-shift Jobs would be benefited is the reason of this, not the Bugs which he so ridiculed. [2]
Anyways, sorry for giving up. Had I known in time, I would have written something like this, but...... too late.
