The ability to nominate judges when setting up a debate! Probably not so useful for your everyday debating needs but could be cool in case edeb8 ever gets an unofficial tournament or something
Have fun with it everyone! And remember to comment on nzlockie's suggestion, I really want to hear more feedback on this.

This is a great idea and will totally address the issue that guy was talking about the other day.

I think it's a bad idea that you shouldn't copy from DDO.

Haha, I left them in my other pants.
No seriously, this is a good idea. I know because that's what I was thinking of when I said we could easily address the judging issues he brought up.
Nice "work"!
Oh! There they are!
Bullish:
Interesting, how has it not worked over there?

DDO is going to add it "soon" after over 6 months of no other debate updates. I did the same thing in about an hour just then.

They just announced that they will implement it sometime in the future, so its just some educated speculation from me.
My main issues with it is that choosing judgues and waiting for them to accept could be a hassel, and the instigator could choose his friends as judges. I can only see this ever being used in a toruney, but tourneys are few, prestigious to vote on, scrutinized more carefully, and could always get their special treatment. Having more buttons in the "make a new debate" page could be distracting for new debaters.

"waiting for them to accept could be a hassel"
In my implementation you don't have to wait. The debate can start without the judges.
"the instigator could choose his friends as judges"
I do concur with this though.
"Having more buttons in the "make a new debate" page could be distracting for new debaters."
Lol, have you seen our start a new debate page? We have way more options than ddo has already. Any advice on simplifying much appreciated.

Nope. I'll check out the site features in more detail tonight before I open my mouth I suppose.
Ultimately I do not believe in restricted voting except by some unbiased measure of skill such as elo; I especially don't think that a system where one of the interest parties choose the choosers is sound.
While you're here, do you mind telling me what kind of rich text the forums support? Doesn't look like there's a block quote feature.

One of the complaint we have here (and apparently they have everywhere) is that the judges aren't qualified to be judging. I don't know that too many people actually have a problem with it but this feature would give those people a way out.
You might be right though. If it turns out to be a pain then it'd be pretty easy to just make it an option accessible when setting up a tourney.
Admin- I honestly don't see what's so hard or complicated with the "start a debate" page! It seems pretty easy to me.

It supports my own implementation of bbcode. Most of the important stuff is supported.

Except only one person, who by his own admission was not even familiar with the site, complained about that.

Is that a reference to me? Sound like "one person" is refering to the disgruntled person with no quality votes.

No, it's not. It's somebody from ddo who had so much hate he decided to send some to me by way of email. I get a bit of aggressive emails from time to time but he actually had a few interesting points that I shared in the forums and on the edeb8 blog.

I think it's a great idea! That way you don't have to have crazy little girls judge who don't give RFDs cause they don't want to get bumped down. xD One suggestion would be is to make sure the judge isn't voting on a bias for one side.
Please excuse me as I'm not super creative when it comes to forum signatures.
