By popular demand, tomorrow I'm adding an activity feed. For this I'm creating a new space on the home page.

For users that are not logged in, I think it would be cool if that space had a few quick quotes from some of you about what you like about the site in that space. For example "I really love the range of options available when setting up the debate" or "I like being able to make my own group/team". If we could collect maybe 5 of your quotes that would be fantastic!

Thanks for all your support!

BTW, you can now favorite debates. I'm adding code to allow you to receive various email updates relevant to debates you've favorited momentarily.

admin: I love the responsiveness to user request here. On other sites, they are more interested in the money than they are in the site, and the developers often won't get to the requests, or their updates are entirely out of sync with what the users want. But you seem to genuinely just want to make a fantastic debate website, and that's the big difference, in my mind.

admin: There are so many things to love, although you already pointed out the obvious. The variety of the formats of the debates is the USP, its great.

I'd say I like that the site seems to radiate a genuine love for debating rather than attracting more people, i.e its not altering its content to attract them- its strengthening its USP and hoping that people who resonate with those features come here (if that makes any sense). I feel it would go miles in building up the quality of the user base.

And it also makes this real, as opposed to a corporate flashy debating wannabe compound.

In the interests of full disclosure, I'm not a member of DDO or any other debate site for that matter. That being said, DDO tops the search rankings so I landed there first and have spent some time browsing around it. In the end I chose Edeb8 for a couple of main reasons:

1) I like the site layout.
It surprises me when I hear people saying that the layout is confusing - it's not. I love the "dashboard" effect main screen when I log in, I like having the navigation buttons at the top of every screen. I love the fact that the site is not cluttered up with ads and external links. Having never participated in a debate site before, I found this one to be very intuitive.

2) I like the way debates are constructed and handled.
It bugs me on other sites that the first round is always for acceptance, and people always seem to use the first round to explain the rules etc. Edeb8 handles all of that in a special "Rules" section. The creator can use this section to explain definitions too, so that anyone accepting it knows AHEAD of time what they're getting into. Then the debate can just start.
I love the fact that we can set the debates to be "forfeit = fail". Forfeits suck and they make the debate just drag on and on. On Edeb8, if you forfeit, you lose. simple as that.
I like the voting system which encourages judges to comment and explain. I've been on the receiving end of the downside to this system, but on balance, I still like it.
I personally think that the way the debates are handled is the single best thing about this site.

3) I like the fact that Edeb8 seems to have more focus on debating.
On DDO they have polls and Opinions which, to me, just distract people away from an actual debate. I wish we had more debates happening on Edeb8 but I put a lot of that down to membership. There's only so many times the same people can debate each other!
If you're reading this and you haven't done a debate on here -you should get on it!
If you're reading this and you're not quite ready to do an actual debate yet - get in and judge some debates! I KNOW you read my flag debate with Admin and clearly saw that my position was the logical winner! Why didn't you vote? Now we have to get a new flag which half the country doesn't even want!
Seriously though, judging is cool and is ALWAYS appreciated by the participants.

4) I like the fact that changes happen fast around here.
One of the advantages to a small site I guess. If we want to try something out, then we just suggest it, and presto it happens! Very cool and not easy to do. Admin does a pretty awesome job at maintaining this site.

*blush*

Thanks for writing that up. I'm seriously considering copying and pasting that into the "About Us" page, which I'm currently reworking.
