Blackflag:
Used to be called Ivory Coast. Now you'll find its called Cote d'Ivoire by everyone.
nzlockie:
Huh, I've always been taught Ivory Coast. I don't believe everyone uses Cote D'Voire over Ivory Coast.
I remember taking a Geography majors test and getting a question wrong because it was asking for Cote D'Voire.
Blackflag:
Ivory coast got kicked out maybe 20 years ago. You will struggle to find any official reference to that term any more. UN, Olympics, Miss World... Etc
nzlockie:
Cote D'Ivoire did it; so why not every other country out there?

I don't think there is any reason to call countries in their own native language, besides, I doubt that anyone who doesn't have a basic knowledge of Chinese could correctly pronounce "Zhongguo", and the same applies to many countries.
But I believe that people should be kept up to date on the spelling of some names. Brazil isn't spelled with a "z" in Portuguese since the 1943 orthographic reform.
