But that kind of defeats the purpose. English translations of anime OP/EDs are sucky and bland. The lyrics in romaji text, on the other hand, look cool.

When I watch anime, i usually watch it in english. It doesn't make it worse. However, if you like anime because of its language, then I can see what you mean.

I typically watch anime subbed, at first because that's all that was available to me but later because I simply liked it better than the dubbed version. The OP/ED is often one of the best parts of an anime.
